Habit stacking examples

Last updated October 2026

Habit stacking means attaching a new habit to one you already have, so the old habit becomes the trigger for the new one. Below are practical habit stacking examples drawn from the daily challenges inside HabitBots — each one small enough to do today, and each one worth investing in.

The morning water stack

After you pour your morning coffee, drink a glass of water first. Three litres a day sounds like a lot until you stack it: a glass with coffee, a glass at each meal, a bottle on your desk. In HabitBots, each tap counts toward your 3-litre goal — hit it and the day invests for you.

The lunch plate stack

When you sit down to eat, add one serving of fruit or vegetables before anything else. Five servings a day is five small taps: an apple with breakfast, a side salad at lunch, vegetables with dinner. Stack each serving onto a meal you were already eating.

The evening wind-down stack

After dinner, stack your swaps: sparkling water instead of a beer, fruit instead of dessert. The no-alcohol and no-sugar challenges work best when the replacement is decided ahead of time — you never rely on willpower at 9pm.

The commute movement stack

Get off one stop early, take the stairs, walk while you take a call. Forty-five minutes of movement a day is easier as three 15-minute stacks attached to things you already do than as one workout you have to find time for.

The bedtime stack

When you plug in your phone at night, that's the cue to start winding down. Six or more hours of sleep is the challenge, and the stack is simple: phone down, lights down, tomorrow morning you tap to log last night's sleep.

Why stacking works with investing

Every completed challenge in HabitBots invests a dollar from your wallet into index funds — and streaks multiply it up to 2x. You choose how to play: practice with play money today, or invest real money (coming soon) — both modes will always be available. Stack the habits, keep the streak alive, and the small wins compound in both directions: better routines and a growing portfolio.
